And, in honor of Victory Day, allow me to (belatedly) repost a comic I posted on the original scans_daily - a story of Alexander Chekalin, originally published in 1942 on the pages of Boy Comics #5. Writing by Dick Wood, art by David Smalle.

While looking up vintage PSA comics, I found this fascinating 1957 comic about atomic power. It's very nicely illustrated, and lots of its science is actually sound... Until it gets to the future uses of atomic power. While many predictions are simply too optimistic, others seem naive now that we understand the long-term effects of radiation.

Something that's been on my tabs for a while:

• Sequential Romance posted scans of a story from a romance comic that, amazingly, actually involved an interracial relationship. Sort of. It 's kind of open ended. But in the context of the time, it's pretty progressive and interesting for purely historical reasons.

This is your Archie Comics on drugs

Well, tranquilizers, actually, but I am still amazed this story actually got published. I mean, yes, this was the 60s, where drugs of all kinds were all the rage, but the Comic Code was usually pretty conservative abut this sort of thing.

ttp://www.postmodernbarney.com/ gives us some out-of context panels form Ken Shannon, a Golden Age crime comic.

Sans Everything blog has an interesting look at depiction of gays and lesbians in 1930s-1940s comics. They were never explicitly identified as such, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out the very obvious implications.

Jordanian couple cheat on each other... with each other. If this was a romantic comedy, it would have ended with the couple realizing that their relationship is fundamentally strong and everything would be okay, but since this is not a romantic comedy... well, read for yourselves.

Davey was a comic strip that ran in the Catholic Saturday Evening Post back in the late 40s/early 50s. A few sample strips have been posted at I'm Learning to Share blog.
